Music Education Assistance Project
The Music Education Assistance Project, Inc. (MEAP) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation that was founded in January of 1997. It was created to help deal with diminishing musical arts funding in the middle schools and high schools of Northern Oregon and Southern Washington. Currently, its main focus is to provide scholarships for private instruction to musically gifted, but financially needy, students. Additionally, MEAP hosts educational concerts and classroom workshops. Donations are gladly accepted. Contact Local 99 for more information.
Funding now available for members!
MEAP is now making funds available for Local 99 members who are experienced at giving clinics, educational performances or masterclasses and who have the contacts - or who can create the contacts - in the public elementary, middle or high schools in Local 99’s jurisdiction to arrange such presentations. The MEAP board of directors desires to see projects mounted by our members in collaboration with the public school music programs that meet the schools’ or school districts’ music education needs, enhance their programs and benefit the educational experience of the music students. More specifically, MEAP desires to fund presentations that bring something new into a school music program; something that is above and beyond a school’s standard curriculum or extra-curriculum. This is not about performing straight-ahead concerts for the general student body; it is about delivering specifically-directed music educational presentations for public school music students. MEAP will consider project applications twice each year - once in February for projects occurring in the balance of the current school year, and once in October for projects occurring during the next school year. Depending on the nature of your proposed project, funding may be made directly to you through MEAP, through Music Performance Fund (MPF) if appropriate, or through a blending of both. The goal is to deliver the best programs and maximize the impact of the funds MEAP invests.
To apply, download the 3-page MEAP Project Grant Application form. The application asks for the name of the school and its contact person, a description of your group, the proposed project, an explanation of how the project meets MEAP’s mission, and a budget. The application must be signed by you and the appropriate representative of the school or district.
February 25, 2008, is the deadline for this first round of grants.
(Proposals for the 2008-09 school year may be submitted any time between now and October 15, 2008.)
