“Working Smart: Injury Prevention and Treatment for Musicians”

June 3, 2010

Monday June 7th,
7-9pm, at the Musician’s Union Rehearsal Hall, 325 NE 20th.

This panel discussion is the next presentation in the Professional Musicians Workshop Series brought to you by your musicians union, Local 99.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! We all know making music is physically  demanding: instruments strapped on necks, shoulders and backs; holding strings, flutes, brass; hours of practice; hours of sitting, standing, loading and unloading; stress; and a “go-go-go!” lifestyle that never lets you sit down long enough for proper nutrition, rest, exercise and hydration. This overview and panel discussion will present attendees with a variety of prevention techniques and treatment options from the following disciplines: Alexander Technique, Chiropractic, Massage and Acupuncture. Panelists will give an overview of how their discipline relates to musicians, and there will be a Q&A session following the presentations. Bring your aches, pains, carpal tunnel, trick knees and insomnia on out for a look at how to work smarter and stay healthy!
