No reservations are necessary. This two-hour, interactive workshop will provide practical information on various legal topics related to the music business, with a focus on copyrights and contracts. Anyone involved with the music business should attend: bands, singer-songwriters, managers, producers, promoters, or record label owners. Copyright topics will include the basic concepts that every musician should know, sound recording versus song compositions copyrights, registering music with the Copyright Office, and the ins and outs of performing rights organizations such as ASCAP and BMI. Copyright forms and other valuable handouts will be provided. The discussion of music business contracts will focus on recording and publishing agreement basics; licensing for films, television and video games; management and distribution deals; band and side musician agreements; production deals, and more.
